  The Nymphaeum at Petra was a Roman addition to the city after their annexation of Nabataea in 106 AD. The monument is quiet ruined now. The central exedra was the fountain and the water was collected at a pool below. The water conduit that started at the Siq passed behind this structure. Behind the Nymphaeum, the Wadi al-Mataha coming from the northeast joins Wadi Musa flowing from the East. It is reputed that the pistachio tree that has grown next to the Nymphaeum is about half a century old.
