  Around the Church of Marianos there are several rock-cut tombs entered by a flight of steps (see example on review image). They are part of the southern necropolis of Jerash and date from the 1st to the 6th century AD. Their entrances are locked for their safekeeping. Further on, between the visitor's center, the restaurant and the South Gate, there is an above ground tomb or mausoleum built for the upper class (see review image). Proceed a few steps ahead towards the eastern gate to the Hippodrome and enter the arena through it.
