After a tremor destroyed the North Bridge and much of the processional way up to the Temple of Artemis, the Byzantine citizens of Jerash built this church on what was left of the thoroughfare in this area in the middle of the 6th century AD incorporating much of the original Roman architectural elements. There are nice views from the far side of the apse over the city including the Great East Baths and the place where the North Bridge once stood. From the apse, retrace your steps to the Cardo and admire the monumental processional way entrance (propylaeum) to the Sanctuary of Artemis.
