  سمي معبد الأسود المجنحة بهذا الاسم نسبة الى تاجيات الأعمدة الموجودة داخل المعبد، والتي كانت عبارة عن أسود لها أجنحة. ووفقا للمتخصصة في علم الآثار، الدكتورة خيرية عمرو، فإنّه من المرجح أن يكون هذا المعبد للإله المصري "أيزيس" (آلهة القمر والأمومة)، أو الإله "عطر غاطس" السوري، فيما كانت مصادر أخرى قد أشارت الى أن المعبد قد يكون مكرسا للإلهين ايزيس زوجة "اوزوريس" (وهو صاحب الأسطورة الأكثر تأثيرا من بين الأساطير الفرعونية) الذين كانا يقارنان بآلهة الأنباط الرئيسية "الشراة"، و"العزة". اكتشف المعبد العام 1974 من بعثة جامعة يوتا الأميركية بإدارة الدكتور فيليب هموند، وهو يتكون من شرفة أمامية تتقدمها أعمدة وقاعة و"مذبح".

  Prachtig. Faris kon hem echter niet goed vinden. Misschien nog iets duidelijker aangeven op de map.

  I visited in November 2016. No wonder at all to me that this is one of the 'Wonders of the World'. The scale and condition of the ruins is something to behold. If you have the opportunity to visit Petra, you should do it.

  A guide will help you get most out of the site - this was build nearly 2,000 years ago! They believe it was a religious complex that had crypts, annexes and living space - plus workshops! Recently they found out that an earthquake in the area damaged the structure in the year 363! Yet - we can still see it today. Amazing.
